Pharmacogenomics: Making the case for Primum non nocere
As a practicing clinician and an educator, I consistently arrive at crossroads when I need to make therapeutic choices. This often is done in the context of drug efficacy and effectiveness. It may be a cliché, but it is just as true – ‘One cap does not fit all’. However contemporary prescription guidelines and conventions frequently rely on standardized dosing. This usually does take into account a patient’s age, gender, weight, sometimes ethnicity and so forth.
